Robotic assisted surgeries are at the forefront of technological advancements for complex procedures. When a case of benign lesion of considerable size was detected at the base of the tongue, a video laryngoscopy was carried out and evaluation was done and patient was planned for transoral robotic assisted excision of the mass. In such cases, robotic-assisted surgery is the best and most advanced technology to have precision surgery, reducing the chances of complications and duration of stay.
A Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery was performed under the supervision of Dr Piyush Kumar Agarwal - Clinical Director & HOD - Surgical Oncology and Dr Kunal Nigam - Senior Consultant & HOD - ENT, Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram. The excision of the mass from the base of the tongue took place conveniently in this procedure that would have been inaccessible to the naked eye as well as impossible to be operated without the help of robotic arms which have higher range of movement and flexibility compared to the conventional instruments.
