We present one of the successful cases of abdominoperineal resection with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) in a patient diagnosed with locally advanced carcinoma (CA) rectum and peritoneal disease. The procedure was performed by Dr Piyush Kumar Agrawal, Clinical Director & HOD - Surgical Oncology at Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram.

The patient, Akshay Raj Pradhan, had a neoadjuvant chemotherapy that showed an excellent positive response-evidenced by a PET-CT scan. The patient was put under general anaesthesia and underwent an abdominoperineal resection, omentectomy, peritonectomy, and mesenteric peritoneal stripping. This was followed by HIPEC, a form of heated chemotherapy treatment administered directly into the abdominal cavity to treat any remaining cancer cells post-surgery and thus reduce the possibilities of recurrence.
