Life Saving Cardiac Surgery on a 40 day old infant with Multiple Defects

A rare congenital heart defect was diagnosed in Zoori, a 40-day-old girl from Iraq after she began suffering from poor weight gain, rapid breathing, and a bluish discoloration. An echocardiogram by the pediatric cardiology team at Marengo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad, revealed the condition of Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and coarctation.

This involved multiple defects like a reversed position of the aorta and pulmonary artery, a hole in the heart's septum, and a narrowing of the aorta. With every next minute being crucial, the baby underwent a life-saving surgery under the expert supervision of an experienced surgical team led by Dr RajeshSharma, Clinical Director - Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. The treatment included a successful one-stage correction: arterial switch, aortic arch repair and VSD closure. A unique method of brain perfusion was done, and 'aortic relocation' was used to prevent the recurrence of coarctation.

Post-surgery, the baby was on a ventilator for 3 days and in the ICU for a week. After a smooth recovery, she was discharged in 10 days, with a dramatically improved outlook. This milestone case is a testament to MarengoXcellence, our commitment towards achieving clinical excellence with research and innovation at the forefront.
