Baby Haya, a 5-year-old, had come to Marengo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad,
with multiple cardiac defects including Congenitally Corrected Transposition of
the Great Arteries (CCTGA), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and a narrowed
pulmonary valve. In order to undergo the main surgery, i.e. the Double Switch
Operation (DSO), the ventricular defect was closed in such way that the left
ventricle was tunnelled to the aorta. This was followed by a synthetic tube with
a handstitched valve being used to connect the right ventricle to the pulmonary
arteries. The entire procedure was carried out with utmost expertise by Dr Rajesh Sharma, Clinical Director - Paediatric Cardiac Surgery and his team.
She had a pacemaker implant due to heart blockage and a prolonged course
in ICU due to Thrombocytopenia-associated Multiple Organ Failure (TAMOF)
phenotype sepsis. But baby Haya has finally recovered and discharged after a
prolonged hospital stay.
